A Pocket Sized Digital Camcorder For Less Than $400?

Posted on Monday, May 05 @ 14:50:05 EDT by cmyden

Technology When shopping for a new camcorder I made a point to look for one that was small and portable. I mean really small and portable.

To my surprise there is a very high quality, extremely compact, digital camcorder available for less than $400. It's the Panasonic PV-DC152 and in my opinion it's a steal of a deal.

To read more about why I like this camcorder, click here.

Why This Camcorder Is Great:

  • It's frickin' small. The official dimensions are 2.7 in x 4.5 in x 3.5 in. It will fit in your coat pocket without trouble.
  • It's digital (MiniDV), and the picture quality is top notch. It has firewire support, so you can hook it up to your computer and create digital videos.
  • It has a 93% rating at CNET.

There are 2 other models in this same Panasonic series. The PV-DC252 is about $100 more, and is exactly the same but comes with a memory stick for storing still pictures. The PV-DC352 adds a Leica lens, which is very nice, but it also adds about $500 to the retail value.

The optical zoom is only 10X, which is a lot less than the 26X I had on my previous camcorder, but that's the price you pay for such a compact size.

It comes with a handy remote control, charger and battery. There is a built in zoom-mic and the audio quality is amazing! From what I had read the video quality was superb, and I have found nothing to dispute that claim.

So if you're looking for a great camcorder, check out the PV-DC152 on Ebay, where you can pick one up for $350 or less.
